Become a partner driver for children with Kidcab

Aug 7, 2025

Becoming a children’s driver is a goal that more and more professionals are pursuing, particularly those in the transport sector who want to take part in a meaningful, people-centred role. Being part of young children’s and teenagers’ daily lives, taking them to school or to their activities, is a genuinely rewarding mission. Interested in becoming a children’s driver? Here is everything you need to know about how we recruit our KidCab partner drivers.

What does a KidCab partner driver do ?

For more than six years, our partners have looked after children with full door-to-door support tailored to each family’s needs. For individual journeys as well as group trips, our assignments include:

  • journeys between the home (or homes) and school (or schools);
  • journeys to after-school activities;
  • trips that may or may not include stops along the way (for example, when children sharing a journey have different drop-off addresses);
  • a standby service.

Every journey is designed to give families a mobility solution that is reliable and reassuring.

What does a typical journey look like ?

The door-to-door support we guarantee to the families who trust us works like this:

  • Our partner driver meets the child at their front door, welcomes them and offers a steadying arm. It is an effective way to help the child walk, cross the road, reach the vehicle and get settled safely inside.
  • The child is carefully and attentively settled on board, creating a calm and reassuring environment.
  • Once the journey is over, the driver accompanies the child right to the door of their school or activity, again offering a steadying arm.

What does it take to become a KidCab partner driver ?

We are always glad to meet new candidates so we can keep providing children with safe mobility, which matters a great deal. That is why our partner drivers meet a clear set of criteria and our recruitment process is thorough:

  • Experience in passenger transport, whether individual, group, or both.
  • Official licences, such as a VTC private-hire licence or LOTI professional transport authorisation.
  • A compliant, roadworthy vehicle. The partner driver must own their own work vehicle, insured and compliant with current regulations, to guarantee comfort and safety for young passengers.
  • An insured business. Our drivers operate a legally established business, insured for professional transport, which underpins their commitment and accountability.
  • A genuine feel for children’s mobility. Our partner drivers are caring and patient, and have a natural rapport with young people, so they fully share our commitment to this social mission.

What are the hours of a partner driver ?

At KidCab, hours are built around each passenger’s schedule and each family’s specific needs. That said, there are several peak periods for taking children to school and collecting them. For dropping them at their activities or bringing them home, the most common hours are:

  • mornings, between 7:30 and 9:00;
  • evenings, between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.

These time slots have the advantage of letting our transport professionals manage their other contracts effectively during the day, while still benefiting from regular, stable and varied work.

How much does a KidCab partner driver earn ?

A KidCab partner driver’s pay depends on several factors, such as the location of the families we work with, the number of children carried per vehicle, and the frequency and specifics of the journeys.

We do everything we can to help our professionals plan with clarity. To support their financial stability, our contracts are scheduled in advance and assigned for the whole school year. The partner driver also remains free to accept a given contract or not, so they can shape their schedule around their personal and professional priorities.
